Hello Greg, You will need to contact the CNN and FOX News archives (check their websites). They will want a list of your requested footage and will charge you to edit that onto a tape with a visible timecode window and send it to you. Then you can edit it into your show. Once you have decided what you want, forget about it, then go back and see what you can afford. You then request broadcast quality masters without the timecode windows. You will be billed by the second for everything you use plus they will charge you a dubbing fee to copy it for you. You can reduce the cost somewhat by limiting the rights you request. i.e. just ask for U.S. non broadcast rights and then increase them if you make a broadcast or international deal for your film. However, check on all the rates so you don't sell your show internationally and then discover it cost more to upgrade the rights than you'll make from the sale. I have spent many hours trying to figure out ways around using stock footage. A slow move on a still, a graphic, once I took a still picture that was of a skull in a cave and added a little float to the picture in editing and it looked like handheld camera work. Be creative. Also, if you can use older footage you can check out the National Archives in College Park, Md. Welcome to the world of filmmaking!
Cheers, Dean

I'm a first-time producer/director and I was hoping someone could give me some advice.

Can someone tell me how to go about acquiring archival news broadcasts from CNN and Fox News for use in my film?

Thanks
